Established in 2002, the group’s first company (originally named POPESCO) began by providing operational strategy consulting services focused on communications technologies. The concept, branded “From Slide to Reality,” consisted not only in explaining what should be done but also in offering clients an implementation option and committing to cost and delivery objectives. The POPESCO logo was created alongside this initial business activity: a graduate’s cap placed on a smiling “op”, symbolizing theoretical knowledge combined with a friendly and fair business approach.

The consulting activity, built on the founder’s expertise, was sufficiently successful to create an initial cash reserve. In 2005, POPESCO launched a Moldovan subsidiary named POPSHORE to provide nearshore outsourcing services. Beyond serving external clients, POPSHORE quickly demonstrated its ability to become the group’s low-cost operational platform for new internal projects.

At the beginning of 2006, POPESCO raised capital and debt financing to launch Popfax.com, which rapidly became a significant player in the global Internet fax services market. During its first four years of operation, the service expanded its coverage to 25 countries. To support the development of Popfax.com, the company established a Portuguese subsidiary (POPFAX Portugal) as well as representative offices across Europe and the United States.

In 2010, the original company was renamed POPFAX and became part of the newly formed POPESCO holding company. The creation of the POPESCO holding company marked the beginning of the group’s diversification strategy while maintaining overall synergies between subsidiaries and equity investments.
